Former Lynn Classical track standout Hulerie McGuffie of Lynn was named the ECAC New England Division III co-Track and Field Athlete of the Week as well as the program?s first Little East Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.McGuffie, a sophomore at UMass-Boston, had a career day at the Little East Conference-New England Alliance Championship Meet at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. The two-time All-American won five gold medals, a program best. She won the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 12.26 and 25.51 and established new LEC Championship meet records.She also was on the winning 4 x 400 and 4 x 100 meter relays and she defended her outdoor crown in the long jump with a leap of 16-6 1/2 feet.Sean Buckland of Lynn/St. Mary?s has been named Salem State University?s Athlete of the Week. Buckland pitched a complete game in a 4-2 win over Endicott College. He allowed just one earned run with seven strikeouts. Buckland is a sophomore.Regis College sophomore pitcher Katie Cuozzo of Lynn/Lynn Classical was named to the New England Collegiate Conference all-tournament team.The tournament was played last weekend at Regis College. The Pride won its opening game against Mitchell College, 6-2. Cuozzo pitched a complete game, allowing 11 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned runs and striking out five. She was a force at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a two-run double. In the second game, an 8-1 loss to Lesley, she had a double and scored a run. She took the loss, going seven innings. In the final game, Cuozzo allowed three hits, struck out three and allowed four runs (1 earned). The Pride lost to Mitchell College, 4-0, to end their season at 10-20. Cuozzo went 2-for-3 in that game. She finished the season 9-10.Classical High three-sport athlete Franki Galeazzi is heading to Salve Regina in the fall.Galeazzi plays soccer, basketball and softball for the Rams.Alec Costanza, a senior on the St. Mary?s baseball team, will be attending Suffolk University in the fall, where he plans to play baseball. Costanza will be studying international business.Dan Marini of Nahant, a senior infielder and starting pitcher for the Malden Catholic baseball team, will be playing for St. Joseph College (Maine) next spring. Marini plans to study international business. He has been admitted to the college?s honors program.St. Joseph?s has had a very successful baseball program under coach Will Sanborn, who has held the job for 21 years. His teams have won 17 league championships.
