SAUGUS – Saugus will be able to boost its schools? robotics program with the help of two $30,000 grants.Superintendent Michael Tempesta told School Committee members Thursday that Rep. Donald Wong had amended a House bill to give Saugus $30,000 to establish a district-wide program for robotics “clubs and competitive teams,” according to a letter from Wong. The other $30,000 was “to provide staff and materials for a one-time child enrichment program” in the district.Tempesta said Monday that his administration would decide how best to apply the $60,000 at its leadership meetings at the end of June. Saugus schools have “elements” of robotics in their curriculum now, but these grants would be applied more for after-school programs, he added.Tempesta said that receiving the grants was “very exciting since we?re cutting so much.”
