Swampscott freshman pitcher Gavin Sullivan turned in another stellar performance for the Big Blue in a 12-2 win over Winthrop Monday at Swampscott.Sullivan went six innings, allowing 3 hits, no earned runs, 4 strikeouts and 3 walks.?He continues to get better as the year goes on,” Swampscott coach Jason Calichman said. “We don?t look at him as a freshman. He?s a major contributor. He gets better every start. He?s a competitor. Every time he gets the ball he puts on a good performance.”Sullivan had plenty of run support, led by Ryan Cresta (2 doubles, 2 RBI); Greg Collier (2 hits, RBI); Adrian Espinal (2 hits, walk, 2 RBI) and Al Wallach (hit, 2 RBI).Swampscott (5-11) still has a shot at qualifying for the tournament under the Sullivan rule.Williams 7, St. Mary?s 4At Fraser Field, it was a 3-3 game in the seventh inning, but Williams pulled away. A single, double and intentional 2-out walk loaded the bases, and the next batter tripled on a full count from reliever Antonio Felix. The Bishops added a run to lead 7-3 entering the bottom of the inning. The Spartans (9-4, 6-4 CCL) loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with one out, but could only get one run, on a walk.?It?s a game of inches,” Spartans coach Derek Dana said. “Felix made a lot of pitches for us. They were able to put that ball in play (for the triple), but … the next time we?re in that situation we?re going right back to him because he gave them everything he has. He?s an outstanding player, outstanding kid.”Felix pitched 1.1 innings (4 runs, 2 BB, 1 K). He also broke up a no-hitter in the fifth with an infield single. St. Mary?s scored its other three runs that inning, on an RBI double by Ryan Boiselle and a two-run, two-out double from Brian Nerich.Matt Costanza, who singled that inning, drew the start on the hill. He went five and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs (2 earned) on five hits, walking one and fanning three. After yesterday?s CCL showdown, Williams is atop the league standings (with Arlington Catholic) and St. Mary?s is second.?The league is still up in the air,” Dana said.Peabody 16, English 7At Peabody, things started out well for the Bulldogs (8-7, 6-6), but they went downhill in a hurry. English scored five runs in the top of the first inning, only to have Peabody come back with four in the bottom half.?They scored four in the bottom of the first and then they didn?t stop scoring,” English coach Joe Caponigro said.Caponigro said his team didn?t hit badly, but the pitching and defense were subpar. English went through five pitchers with starter Mike Troy taking the loss. He was followed by Dan Rustani, Jeam Castillo, Brett Molea and Jack Milhem. Lucas Harris had three of the team?s nine hits.Matt Moorer got the win in relief for Peabody (12-4, 9-3 NEC). Christian Morales went 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored. Ryan Collins went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI.Beverly 9, Classical 5At Fraser Field, it was a rough night for the Rams after Beverly scored three runs in the first inning. Classical got one run back in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Andre Gaudet that scored Brad Scuzzarella. The Rams added two in the second when Damien Earp hit a ball between second and first that was misplayed and two runs scored.Beverly scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth and then tacked on three more in the sixth. Classical got a couple back when Andrew Moccia tripled and scored on a triple by Matt Stanley. Stanley scored on a Tyler Way sacrifice fly.Classical is 7-7.St. John?s 3, Mald. Cath. 1At Danvers, senior lefty Evan Roberts tossed a complete-game three-hitter, allowing one earned run and striking out five. His record is 6-0.The Eagles (13-1, 6-0 Catholic Conference) have now won 13 in a row. They scored all three runs in the fourth inning with Mike Geaslen (3-for-3) singling in a run and Penn State verbal commit Keith Leavitt adding a two-run double. Max Burt also had three hits.Fenwick 13, Matignon 1At Mati
