As wins go, this was a big one for the Classical High softball team. The Rams have struggled a bit this season, but it all came together Wednesday in a 3-0 win over Revere at Breed. The win not only put Classical a step closer to qualifying for the state tournament, but it came against a strong team the Rams (8-9) lost to, 7-3, earlier in the season. If those two reasons weren’t enough to kick it up a notch, the players may also have had a little extra motivation because the win marked the 200th for coach Chris Warren, who is in his 15th year as head coach.”Tonight was a huge win against a good team,” Warren said. “We’re playing for a tournament bid. We’re going against a good Revere team. It was huge. It was our biggest win of the year and our best played game of the year. The girls came to play.”Warren said he suspects the coaches may have filled the players in on the fact it would be his 200th and that may have “put a little pep in their step.”The Rams scored one run in the second inning when Madison Angelli got a base hit, advanced to second on a Courtney Braswell (3-for-3) base hit and scored on a Jen Ierardi (2-for-3, RBI) single. In the third inning, Jill Strileckis doubled, took third on an error and scored on a hit by Ivy Martin (who also got the win). Braswell led off the fourth with a hit, followed by an Ierardi hit. Shannon Magner laid down a sacrifice bunt that no one made a play on to load the bases for Franki Galeazzi (3-for-4), whose base hit over the shortstop drove in the third run.As far as hitting the 200 career win milestone, Warren said it was a neat thing.”There were a lot of players getting a lot of those wins,” he said.Over his 15 years as head coach, Classical has qualified for the tournament all but two times. For Revere, Sabrina Palermo allowed 11 hits but also struck out 11.Tech 19, Notre Dame 14At Lawrence, the Tigers (1-9) jumped out to a 9-3 lead at the end of the first, and never trailed.”I am very happy for the girls,” Tech coach Beth Mercaldi said. “It was an exciting win, and the girls played great today.”Tech freshman starting pitcher Briana Reynoso threw a complete game and picked up the win in her first career varsity start. Adriana Reyes led the way for the Tigers offense (4-4, 2 RBI, 4 runs scored, 2 stolen bases). Tech freshmen Mehrin Hueston had a strong performance defensively. Tech plays Northeast Friday.Amesbury 6, Lynnfield 4At Lynnfield, the Pioneers lost in eight innings. Lynnfield was down 4-2 going into the seventh, rallied for two but lost. Sadie Oliver took the loss for the Pioneers, who need to win two of their final three games to qualify for the tournament.Beverly 10, English 1At Beverly, English (1-13) was down 5-1 until the bottom of the fifth inning. The Panthers had a five-run fifth to put the feisty Bulldogs away. Sarah Tobin had a strong performance at the dish (3-for-3). Keri Bryson scored the lone Bulldog run. English plays Revere Monday.Beverly’s Emily Pitman struck out 11 and surrendered two hits for the win.Olivia George went 3-4 with a two-run home run and three RBI. Other contributors were Hannah Silvestri (hit, RBI, run); Ally Cabral (2-4, triple, 2 RBI) and Caitlyn Munzing (hit, RBI).Peabody 9, Salem 3At Salem, the Tanners (10-3, 9-2) qualified for the state tournament with the win. Dominque DelBene had a monster game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double and a solo home run. Taylor Dabney went 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. Unfortunately, she had to leave the game in the seventh with a possible knee injury. Shelbi Wilson got the win for the Tanners.KIPP 22, Prospect Hill 3At Danehy Park in Cambridge, the Panthers (3-3), although only playing three innings, had a solid game. KIPP scored seven runs in the first inning and in the second inning with eight in the third inning.Mikayla Collins pitched a good game and had a triple. She also played well defensively. Serena High played well, as did Briana Collins (2 doubles, 3 RBI); Mckayla Berry (3 RBI) an
