Tennis: Swampscott girls defeat Danvers

The Swampscott High girls tennis team made it a clean sweep with a 5-0 win over Danvers Wednesday at Swampscott.The Big Blue (11-2) won all three singles matches 6-0, 6-0, with Anna Raptunovich at one, Vivien Gere at two and Veronica Pyatigorskaya at three. Anya Peterson and Jessica Zolott won at first doubles and in the match of the day, Michelle Shnayder and Sara Cunningham lost the first set, 4-6, and won the next two, 6-1, 10-7, to take second doubles.The Big Blue will play Marblehead on Tuesday in what could be a battle for the Northeastern Conference South title if Swampscott also defeats Winthrop.Lynnfield 5, Rockport 0At Rockport, the Pioneers (13-0) garnered at least a share of the Cape Ann League Small title. If they can defeat Newburyport today, they?ll take the championship outright for the first time since 2009. Manchester-Essex has won it the last four years.Lynnfield had wins from Sarah Mezini at first singles, 6-0, 6-1; Izzy Figucia, second singles, 6-1, 6-0; Katie Nevils, third singles, 6-1, 6-0; Logan and Sloan Colby-Nunziato, first doubles, 6-0, 6-0, and Rachel Maglio-Melanie Richard, 6-0, 6-2.Marblehead 3, Gloucester 2At Gloucester, Kelly Mealey led Marblehead at first singles (6-1, 6-0). The rest of the Marblehead winners were: Amanda Gilberg-Meagan Hanratty, first doubles (6-0, 6-0) and Mia Griffin/Sammi Gilberg, second doubles (6-0, 6-2). Marblehead is 9-3.Peabody 4, Classical 1At Peabody, Janelle Way and Shea Dunnigan won at second doubles for the Rams? only point. Meredith MacDonald took her match at third singles three sets before losing and Katrina Syrakos and Linda Khuth put up a good fight at first doubles before losing in three sets. Classical is 8-6.Beverly 3, English 2At English, Beverly?s Sophie Clause won second singles, 6-1, 6-0; Maddie Trembley, third singles, 6-3, 6-2, and Caroline Joseph-Carly Blau at first doubles, 6-3, 7-5. The Panthers are 7-6 overall, 7-5 NEC.The Bulldogs (1-9) played well in the loss with Ashley Lon taking her match at first singles, 6-2, 6-0, and Jasmin Chhim and Cindy Truong winning at second doubles, 6-4, 6-6 (7-1).BOYS TENNISLynnfield 3, St. Mary?s 2At Lynnfield, two matches went to three sets, including second singles, where the Pioneers? Joe Crowther pulled out the win (4-6, 6-4, 6-3). Lynnfield?s other winners were: Ethan Forrest/Will Durkee, first doubles (5-7, 6-4, 6-4) and Shreyas Krudimoti/Danny Bronshyag, second doubles (6-0, 6-0, first win at second doubles for this pairing this season).Brady Ryan won at first singles for St. Mary?s, 6-0, 6-1, and Patrick Morin-Plante won at third singles, 6-4, 6-4.
