Brothers Jared and Jake Fay of Lynn are leaving Fordham University, where both played on the men?s Division 1 basketball team this year.Jake Fay was a freshman and Jared was a second-year player who had redshirted a year. The younger Fay has decided to transfer to the University of Hartford, also a Division 1 program, while Jared Fay will be heading to Dominican University in New York, where he plans to obtain his master?s degree.Jake Fay will have to sit out a year before he can play at Hartford. Jared Fay was able to complete his bachelor?s degree requirements in three years at Fordham (he took quite a few summer classes). He?ll still have two years of player eligibility left, which he plans to use at Dominican. Fay will graduate this weekend.Jake Fay said he started thinking about making a change after his first season. He said he talked to his parents and his brother and made the call. He?s excited about the prospect of playing at the University of Hartford.?I thought Hartford would really be a good fit,” Fay said, noting that the team has won 17 games in each of the past two years.?They run an offense that will definitely suit me,” Fay said.In sitting out a year, Fay will practice with the team and sit on the bench when the team is home, but he won?t be traveling with the team. Fay said he?s hoping to obtain his master?s degree with the extra year.
