Roundup: Busy weekend in track, lacrosse

It was a very good day for Swampscott in the spring relays Sunday in Seekonk as the Big Blue boys picked up two firsts and a girls team qualified for the nationals.The Bishop Fenwick girls also had a good showing, topping the field in the shot put with a combined distance of 90:04.25.This was Swampscott?s first year in Division 4 for outdoor track, and the Big Blue made the most of it.?It made for a very nice afternoon,” said boys coach Peter Bush.The distance medley team consisting of Matt Mahoney, Marco Scibelli, Bennett Smith and Noah Conte won with a time of 10:34. Justin Chasse, Berry Tevrow and Jack Levinson won the shot put with a combined distance of 125-even.Both Swampscott and Fenwick had several Top 10 finishes for the boys. They were:4×100, Fenwick (46.78); 4 x 200, Fenwick (1:36.36); 4 x 800, Fenwick (8:56.75); 4 x 100 shuttle hurdles, Fenwick (1:15.54); high jump, Swampscott (15-03.00); triple jump, Swampscott (106-02.50); discus, Swampscott, (312-11); javelin, Swampscott (381-10).For the girls, the Big Blue were fifth in the javelin with Rebecca Price, Shauna King and Maia Bucks taking part; and second in the sprint medley. Aisling Dennehy, MacKenzie Faulkner, Sarah Kelley, Bailey Shorr ran a 4:15, which qualified them for the nationals.The girls also took ninth in the 4 x 400 with a time of 4:33.44.The Lady Crusaders took a third in the 4 x 800 (10:57.85) and a fourth in the distance medley (13.47.48).Division 2The Beverly girls finished seventh overall. The Panthers had Top 10 finishes in the 4 x 440 (4:07.28); 4 x 800 (9:57.09); 4×1600 Meter Relay (22:13.40); 1600 Sprint Medley (4:17.18); 4×100 Meter Shuttle Hurdle (1:10.11); High Jump (13-05.75); and Discus (241-11).Division 3The Marblehead girls were ninth and the boys 11th. Danvers also made a good showing for both girls and boys.Top 10 finishes for the girls were:Marblehead: 4 x 200 M (1:49.43); 1600 Sprint Medley (4:35.40); Distance Medley (12:37.82); Long Jump (Danvers, 46-00.00; Marblehead, 44-06.25); triple jump: Danvers (95-01.50); javelin: Marblehead (266-05).Top 10 finishes in the boys meet were: 4×100 Meter Relay, Danvers (45.88); 4×200, Danvers (1:36.16); 4×800, Marblehead (8:58.04); 1600 Sprint Medley, Marblehead (3:35.67); Distance Medley, Marblehead (11:45.75); Danvers (12:06.29); 4×110 Shuttle Hurdle, Marblehead (112-02.25).BOYS LACROSSEM?head 6, Newton No. 4At Marblehead, stellar defense helped the Magicians (9-7) overcome a 4-2 halftime deficit. Liam Gillis, Crandall Maxwell and Tommy Gabel anchored the stout defense in front of goalie Nathan Maselek (8 saves). Dean Fader (assist) notched the game-winner while Ben Anderson and Brooks Tyrrell scored two goals each and Brad Knittle had one.?The defense was tremendous. We played really well as a unit and were in sync in the second half,” said coach John Wilkens.Melrose 12, Beverly 8At Melrose, the Panthers (11-6) fell to another strong non-league opponent. Nick Albano had two goals and two assists and Matt Page scored twice. Kevin Lally had 19 saves. Beverly continues its stiff non-league schedule today against Reading.Revere 13, Malden 3The Patriots (8-6) secured a State Tournament berth on Friday night behind strong games from Jay Sigal (3 goals, 5 assists) and defender Mike Dreeszen (3 goals). Stephen Piazza added a pair of goals and Doug Zingali had nine saves.G?town 16, Swampscott 4At Endicott College, the NEC South-leading Big Blue (12-3, 8-0) had a long afternoon against the Royals. Griffin Hunt scored three goals.In other action, St. Mary?s lost to Keefe Tech/Marian, 14-7.GIRLS LACROSSETriton 15, Swampscott 9At Triton, the Big Blue (6-10-2) fell behind at the half, 10-2, and couldn?t recover Sunday night. MacKenzie scored three goals, Niamph Lang and Lauren Sullivan had two each, and Lauren Sullivan scored once.In other action, Peabody fell to Lowell on Saturday, 15-7.GIRLS TENNISPeabody 5, Revere 0The Tanners (10-2) swept away the Patriots in straight sets.
