Lacrosse: Swampscott girls earn victory over Matignon

The Swampscott High girls lacrosse team cruised to a 15-6 win over Matignon Monday at Cambridge thanks in large part to the play of Lauren Sullivan and Ellie Wright, who combined for nine goals.Sullivan had five of the tallies and Wright, four. The Big Blue also had goals from Maggie DeGrande, Sam Blank, Nianh Lang, Mackenzie Robertson, Anna O?Gorman and Emma Sutherland. Swampscott goaltender Claire Powell made 10 saves in the win. The Big Blue (7-10-2) host Beverly today (4).Manchester-Essex 18, Bishop Fenwick 9At Manchester-Essex, Manchester-Essex scored two goals late in the first half to take an 8-6 lead into the break. Manchester-Essex heated up in the second half and the Crusaders struggled with the draw.Merry Harrington led the Fenwick attack with six goals. Annette Ruggiero had two and Tessa McLaughlin, one. Meghan Woodworth was in net. This was Fenwick?s final regular season game. The Crusaders will take an 11-7 record into the tournament.Marblehead 14, G?ster 6At Gloucester, the Magicians (12-6) got a lift from Sydney Cayen (5 goals, 7 draw controls, 3 ground balls) and Kelsey Detels (4 goals, 8 ground balls and 2 draw controls). Marblehead also had goals from Adrienne Ciccone, Corinne Mayhle, Luci Poulin and Emily Freedland (2).BOYS LACROSSEN. Reading 13, S?scott 3At North Reading, the Big Blue stayed within striking distance, trailing 6-1 at halftime, before a strong third quarter from the Hornets put the game out of reach. Swampscott (12-4) got two goals from Jason Dignan and a solo tally from Griffin Hunt. The Big Blue travel to Peabody on Wednesday (6:30).Whittier 18, Tech 0At Manning Field, the Tigers are 0-15. They play Northeast Wednesday (5) at Manning Field.Salem 11, Peabody 7At Bertram Field, Jerry Manfra had three goals for the Tanners (4-13) with Josh Fiore adding two and one assist and Mike Vadala, two goals. Reed Foster had three assists and Ryan Wolff, one assist. Don Shaw played very well defensively. Peabody wraps up its season Wednesday against Swampscott.
