The Lynn Tech softball team wrapped up its season on a winning note, defeating Chelsea, 18-8, Monday at Frey Park.The Tigers, who have been without a home field all season because their field next to the school is being redone, got a chance to play before a home crowd (they have played most of their home games on the road) and they didn?t disappoint.It was also Senior Day, which gave the Tigers a chance to honor Yerania Castro, who finished her career with a 3-for-5 day with two doubles and a robust six RBI, and Yanna Cabada.It was also a big day for freshman second baseman Marianela DeLeon, who tracked down a popup and then fired over to first to catch the runner off base for the double play. Another freshman, shortstop Meagan LeBlanc, had a monster day at the plate, going 5-for-5 with five runs scored, five RBI, a triple and three stolen bases. Pitcher Sam Oliver had nine strikeouts and made some nice plays in the circle.?I have some good kids coming back, so we should be competitive next year,” Tech coach Beth Mercaldi said. “It was out last game and it was nice to have it at home.”Classical 8, Salem 4At Breed, the Rams prevailed in a back-and-forth contest that was tied, 2-2, after one inning and 4-4 when Classical took the lead in the fifth on a two-run single from Courtney Braswell (2-for-3). The hosts added two in the following frame, helped along by two Witches errors.Ivy Martin (7 hits, 5 strikeouts, 1 walk) earned the win in the circle and added an RBI double in the third, scoring Krista Cuozzo (2-for-4, 2 runs). Jess Perez (1-for-2, RBI) and Jillian Strileckis (1 for 3, 2 runs) had productive days for Classical (10-9), which gets back above .500.Revere 15, English 0At Revere, this one only went five innings. The Bulldogs, whose only hit was a single by Franny DelaRosa, struggled with the walks. Revere pitcher Sabrina Palermo struck out 11 and had a perfect game going until the hit in the fourth. She allowed one walk. The Patriots are 13-5 overall, 9-4 NEC.Fenwick 13, E. Boston 3At East Boston, the Crusaders (12-6) rode a strong pitching performance by freshman Lauren Hallice, who allowed only four hits and struck out seven in a complete game. Only one run was earned.Charlotte Powers (3-for-5, 2 runs, RBI); Bridget Corcoran (3-for-5, 2 runs); Katie O?Brien (3-for-4, 2 runs, RBI) and Justine Armand (3-run home run) got the job done with the bat. Armand?s home run came in the fourth inning with the game tied 1-1.Winthrop 3, Gloucester 3At Winthrop, the game was tied heading into the eighth inning when it had to be suspended because of darkness. It will be continued today. Gloucester took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and bumped it to 3-0 before Winthrop came back with two in the fourth and one in the fifth. Winthrop is 13-6.Lynnfield 5, Manchester 2At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (10-9) qualified for the tournament. They led 3-0 after three innings with big hits from Jackie Whelan (double); Ani Han, RBI single, and Malia Roberto, RBI double. Manchester got two back, but Lynnfield added two in the fifth inning.Whelan threw a complete game, striking out eight and walking one. Han, Hannah Travers and Cassie Keane all had great games in the outfield while Christina Troisi got the job done behind the plate.Peabody 10, Beverly 9At Beverly, Peabody?s Shelbi Wilson went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Kayla Santos went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Wilson also got the win. Peabody (11-4, 10-3) scored seven runs in the first inning and two in the third, but Beverly chipped away at the lead.Beverly junior shortstop Hannah Silvestri went 2-for-5 while recording six assists and four putouts, including two double plays with second baseman Caitlyn Munzing (2-for-4, 2 RBI, triple). Jackie Pia took the loss. Megan Kelley had a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the seventh to score two runs.
