SAUGUS – After six months of continuing requests for grease traps, the Board of Selectmen have a draft for grease trap regulations. The board asked Department of Public Works? Brendan O?Regan, Director of Public Health Frank Giacalone and the town?s plumbing, gas and sewer Inspector James Kennedy to devise a plan for the town?s grease trap regulations at a February meeting. At the board?s meeting Tuesday, Selectman Maureen Dever said the plan they drafted was “very comprehensive and very well done,” and she added that while changes in verbiage needed to be made, there were “lots of good solid direction” in creating final regulations for the town.Dever suggested that the board hold a public hearing and invite the restaurateurs awaiting grease trap approval as well as those with grease trap waivers and the Saugus Chamber of Commerce to give input on the proposed regulations. “They could come up with things we never thought of,” said Dever.Chairman Ellen Faiella agreed that she wanted the regulations to be user-friendly for both the inspectors and the restaurant owners. The board agreed to hold the hearing on a Saturday at 11 a.m., so as not to interfere with the weekday dinner or weekend breakfast rush. The hearing will be held June 7.
