Peabody boys, Beverly girls win NEC track titles

The overwhelming depth of the Peabody boys track team was on full display in Saturday?s NEC League Meet at Manning Field as the Tanners topped the field with 171 points, easily outdistancing second-place Marblehead (87 points).Competition on the girls side was much closer as Beverly (116.3 points) rode seven first-place finishes past Marblehead (97 points)BOYSPeabody got wins from junior Victor Teixeira (100, 11.35), junior Marcus Vieira (discus, 141-2), senior Kevin Guzman (triple jump, 40-9) and both the 4×800 (8:32.11) and 4×100 (44.16) relay teams.Second-place efforts from freshman Marcelo Rocha (2-mile, 9:46.18), senior Drew Fossa (mile, 4:24.91), senior Zach Gross (100, 11.38), junior Rocco Cimino (400, 52.38), junior Alex Greco (800, 1:57.56), junior Michael Shanahan (long jump, 19-7 1/4), junior Anthony Christo (shot put, 46-0), and the 4×400 relay team (3:34.47) put another 64 points on the tally sheet.Senior Ben Braz (2-mile, 9:55.76), junior Patrick Tuohy (400 hurdles, 1:01.06), junior Jason Karakaedos (mile, 4:40.82), junior Christian Cedullo (110 hurdles, 15.41), sophomore Owen Brewster (400, 52.72), senior Manny Vieira (javelin, 156-2) and junior Ariel Ayala (discus, 134-6) added thirds and another 42 points.Marblehead matched Peabody with five firsts from senior Conrad Rousseau in the 400 hurdles (58.58), sophomore A.J. Ernst in the mile (4:20.23), junior Chris Brady in the 400 (51.92), senior Ian McIver in the javelin (160-7), and the 4×400 relay team (3:31.11).Swampscott placed fourth with 59 points, paced by senior Matt Mahoney, who won the mile (9:38.07), and senior Justin Chasse, who took the shot put (48-10 1/2).English finished fifth with 37 points behind sophomore Daekwon Shepherd?s winning long jump of 20-3 1/4 and Peter Matu?s second in the 200 (23.69).Other area winners included Danvers junior John Thomas (200, 22.8), Salem senior Jerry Canada (110 hurdles, 15.05) and Revere senior Tarik Maddrey (high jump, 6-2).Classical got seconds from Kenny Khun (triple jump, 40-1 1/2) and the 4×100 relay team (45.72).BOYS RESULTS2-Mile: 1.
