LYNN – Wyoma Lions Club of Lynn held its 14th Annual Memorial Day Tree Service over the weekend on the Lynn Common.Lynn English High School JROTC Marine Corps Color Guard, led by Sgt. Major Ken Oswald, posted the colors.King Lion Jim Bailey began the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance. The invocation was given by the Rev. Bruce Davis, club secretary and pastor of Lynnfield Community Church.The crowd joined in singing a verse of “America,” and it included Randy Pinch, Bailey, Mike Gmitter, Bruce Davis, Olivia Davis, Bob Hartshorn, Jim Guy Sr., Kathy Harrell. Also adding their voices were the Shoe City Lions, Donna Hartshorn, Sally Cuffe, Peg Simpson and Lions District Governor Jeanne Farrow.Lynn City Ward 5 Councilor Dianna Chakoutis, City Council President Dan Cahill and Lynn School Committee member Maria Carrasco were present at the event.Music program was provided by Lion Mike Gmitter. Lions Kathy Harrell and Randy Pinch read the 284 names being memorialized, which were posted on three memorial boards surrounding the 24-foot blue spruce. The Memorial Tree is adorned with crystal lights, one for each donation of $10. Wyoma Lions’ major fundraiser is to benefit Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund. After each name was read, Bailey rang the club’s bell to “salute” each of the honorees.
