The St. Mary?s High girls lacrosse team saw its Division 2 North tournament run come to an abrupt end with a 17-5 loss to Manchester-Essex Tuesday in a first round game at Manchester. The Spartans had a tough time getting up to speed and by the time they started to click, they had already dug themselves a pretty big hole. Manchester-Essex led 11-3 at the half.?They play a very fast game, a very physical game,” St. Mary?s coach Al Eaton said. “It took us a while to get up to that speed and play at that speed. Eventually, when we got it going, we were already in a hole. Somewhere in the first half we finally started getting going, getting some decent shots on goal. I?m excited about the program and the team we?ll be putting on the field next year.”Marblehead 18, Lynnfield 8At Marblehead, the Magicians are off to a good start with a win in their Division 2 North first-round game.Marblehead, which led 7-6 at the half, got a lift from Sydney Cayen (5 goals, 2 assists, 7 draw controls, 4 ground balls); and Emily Freedland (4 goals, 3 assists, 3 draw controls, 2 ground balls and a caused turnover). Also coming up big were Corinne Mayle (4 goals); Adrienne Ciccone (2 goals); Kelsey Detels (2 goals); Lucie Poulin (goal, 6 assists); Kelsey Detels (2 goals) and Kylie Cronin (2 draw controls, 4 ground balls).Fenwick 8, Ham-Wenham 7At Fenwick, Merry Harrington scored the game-winner with 1:30 left for the No. 8 Crusaders as they advanced in a Division 2 North first-round game over the No. 9 Generals.
