LOWELL – The remarkable ride for the Revere softball team came to an end Wednesday night at Martin Field.View Photo GalleryThe Patriots gave the state’s top ranked team, Bridgewater-Raynham, all it could handle but the South champs scored three times in the fourth inning to take the lead and ultimately a 3-1 win in the Division 1 state semifinals.”We came out attacking just like we wanted to and had them on the run,” Rebere coach Joe Ciccarello said. “They were chasing us but that one inning and one play made the difference. That’s the way the game goes.”The inning and play Ciccarello spoke of came in the fourth after Sabrina Palermo had cruised through the first three frames.Emily Kurkul changed that when she rocked a double to dead center to lead off. A walk to Jenny Heller followed before Brittany Leuenberger sacrificed them up 60 feet.Another walk loaded the bases and Sophia Perez flew out to center to score pinch runner Taylor Poulin to tie the game.Palermo then was one strike from ending the inning but her 1-2 pitch went to the backstop.Julia Cecere got to it quickly but her flip to Palermo covering was high, allowing two runs to score and give B-R the lead. That deficit was immense considering how Trojan ace Sarah Dawson was throwing at that point, having allowed only one runner through the middle innings.Ally Hinojosa gave Revere some life when she tripled to left with one out in the sixth. But Dawson set down the next two batters to end the inning. She then struck out the side in the seventh to put an end to the best season in Revere history.”These girls woke up a city this year,” Ciccarello said. “This doesn’t take anything away from that.”The Patriots got the start they wanted in the first when Cecere singled and then shortstop Kristina Stella doubled in courtesy runner Gabrielle Cammarata for a 1-0 lead.Dawson then retired 11 of the next 12 batters to give her team a chance to rally.
