Work on the tennis courts at Breed Middle School should get underway over the next couple of weeks. The courts, which are home to the Classical High boys and girls tennis teams during the spring, were not available for use this year, but according to Community Development Facilities manager John Moberger, the work should get going soon.Moberger said part of the delay comes as a result of a few changes to the project. He said a decision to go with black vinyl rather than galvanized fencing added about $20,000 to the cost and a decision to add a layer of heavy duty fabric under the pavement to improve the base cost about $40,000.Once the work gets going, the existing pavement will be pulverized and used as part of the base. The fabric will go under the compacted base layer to help keep rocks and other things from coming through the surface. Once the compacted material is down, it will be sealed and striped. The Classical tennis teams scrambled for court space this spring, but they got through the season with help from the King?s Lynne apartments across the street. The management at King?s Lynne allowed the schools use of a couple of additional courts (they had already been using two). The original cost of the Breed courts project was $150,000.
