LYNN ? Larry Kadra, who has been using metal detectors at Lynn Commons for 49 years, has a few tips for those who wish to begin metal detecting:
1) It is of the utmost importance to read the manual of your metal detector.
2) Practice by putting rings, coins and bottle caps under a bench or picnic table and try to learn the different sounds that each one makes.
3) Go out into the field and practice, practice, practice, beginning with your detector’s sensitivity level at 75 percent (the standard recommended sensitivity) and slowly crank it up to become more sensitive as you become familiar with the different tones.?Metal detectors don’t lie,” Kadra said, “but you’ve got to learn the language of the detector in order to understand what it is saying.”
