Marblehead had the pitching and the bats going Monday in a 13-2 win over the Lynn combine team in District 16 Little League softball action at Swampscott.Marblehead advances to the district final Wednesday where it will play the winner of tonight?s Lynn vs. Saugus losers? bracket game. Tonight?s game is at Marblehead (5:30) and the final on Wednesday is at Wyoma.Charlotte Plakans continued to do the job in the circle for Marblehead, striking out eight in four innings (mercy rule).?She did very well,” coach Andy Trasher said. “She was a little shaky in the first inning, but she came around and settled right down.”Marblehead scored seven runs in the first inning to put Lynn (East Lynn-West Lynn-Pine Hill) in a hole.Mercedes Pelletier went 2-4 and reached on an error. Hannah Porath had a single and drove in a pair of runs and Darcy O?Sullivan and Corinne Ahearn split the game behind the plate and did a nice job defensively for Marblehead.Saugus 18, Swampscott 3At Wyoma, Saugus scored 11 runs in the top of the fifth inning to put this game out of reach. Emma Howard (2 innings) and Caitlin Wood (3 innings) split the game on the mound. Howard gave up one run and Wood, two runs on one hit. The game went five innings.Howard (3-for-3, 3 RBI) also swung the bat well for Saugus, as did Tessa Palermo (hit, 4 RBI); Ashley Shaw (2-for-3, 3 RBI); and Caitlin Wright (hit, 2 RBI).Swampscott is eliminated from the tournament with the loss.A day earlier, Saugus sent Peabody packing. Saugus trailed 13-9 heading into the final inning, but scored five runs to nail down a 14-13 win. Howard went 2-for-2 with 4 RBI in that game and Palermo, 3-for-3 with three RBI including a walk-off single to win the game. Shaw had a hit and two RBI.Saugus will play Lynn tonight at Marblehead.BASEBALLWest Lynn 11, East Lynn 1At Marblehead, Will Hunter did it all for West Lynn, striking out 12 in a dominating pitching performance. He only allowed one hit and that came in the first inning. Hunter also had the bat going in a 3-for-4 night that included a solo home run in the third inning that tied the game at 1-1 at the time.West Lynn got two more runs that inning after Maurice Sequeira singled, Matt Devin walked and Steve Strangie knocked them both in on a single.West Lynn scored three more in the fourth inning when Hunter and Sequeira singled and scored on a Matt Devin three-run home run.The fifth inning also featured some action. Makayla Rooney beat out an infield single, Melvin Rosario walked and Hunter singled them both in. Sequeira reached on an error and Matt Devin stepped up with a two-run double. Dan Iraola also had a big hit in the third inning.West Lynn will play Peabody Blue Friday at MacArthur Park (5:45).East Lynn had a strong pitching performance from Miguel Acosta, who struck out seven batters. Jack Calnan had an RBI single to score Marcus Tucker with the only East Lynn run of the game.East Lynn will play Revere Sunday at Pine Hill (1).Peabody Blue 10, Revere 0At Nahant, Peabody Blue got off to a rousing start behind a great pitching performance by Sean Letarte and some long ball by a couple of his teammates.Letarte only allowed one hit, hit a batter and struck out 11 before Alex Gonzalez came on in relief with the bases loaded. He got out of the jam with three strikouts.Declan Russell had a three-run home run in a four-run first inning for Peabody. Peabody put three more on the board in the second inning with Taidon Perez leading the effort with a two-run home run.?We hit the ball hard. Revere made some nice plays,” Peabody Blue manager Eric Ricci said.Peabody Blue will play West Lynn Friday at MacArthur Park (5:45).
