LYNN – Things weren?t going well for the North all-stars to kick off the Agganis Boys Lacrosse Game on Tuesday at Manning Field. The South stars dominated most of the first quarter and had held the North without a shot on goal before the blue-clad side came to life in a big way.The North ripped off five of the next seven goals to take a lead it never relinquished as MVP Kyle Russell?s four goals led the way to a 12-9 win in the third annual playing.?This is a great way to go out,” Russell said. “It was a slow start for us but the guys shook off the rust.”The South tried to make it a runaway early as it led 2-0 early thanks to goals from Tom Stabile and Marblehead?s Dean Fader while holding the North shotless for over 11 minutes.Pomfret?s Tucker Mscisz from Peabody got the North going with two beautiful tallies to tie it before he niftily set up Russell in the waning seconds of the first for the lead. Two more North goals early in the second made it 5-2 before South MVP Jay Calcagno of Danvers stopped the run. Sam Colombo added a goal with 0:23.7 left in the half to make it 5-4 at the break.Calcagno ripped one home early in the third to tie it before Russell took over. The UConn-bound attacker netted a natural hat trick to give his team an 8-6 lead after three.Goals from Matt Curran and Brian Shaw of Hamilton-Wenham to start the fourth gave the North a four-goal cushion. The South cut the lead to 11-9 with 4:04 left but could get no closer despite some quality possessions.?It was nice to come out and play one last high school game,” Russell said. “You also don?t expect to score four goals against players like this.”
