LYNN ? The city of Lynn has made the following announcements about local water treatment:
Floating Bridge PondFloating Bridge Pond will be chemically treated with USEPA/MA registered herbicides to control nuisance aquatic vegetation on Friday. Following treatment, the pond will be closed to all water uses, including swimming, fishing and boating, until July 28.Additionally, use of the water for irrigation is prohibited for 90 days commencing on the day of treatment or until Sept. 27.Additional follow-up treatments will be conducted during July and August as needed.
Flax PondPortions of Flax Pond will be chemically treated with USEPA/MA registered herbicides to control nuisance aquatic vegetation on Friday. Following treatment, the pond will be closed to all water uses, including swimming, fishing and boating, until June 28.Use of the water for drinking/cooking, irrigation and watering livestock (i.e. cattle, horses) is prohibited for five days commencing on the day of treatment or until July 3.
Sluice PondA cove area of Sluice Pond will be chemically treated with USEPA/MA registered herbicides to control nuisance aquatic vegetation on Friday. The treatment will occur in the northwest cove bordered by Jenness Street to the east, Kernwood Drive to the west and Sutcliffe Road to the north. Following treatment, water from the cove and within a distance of 500 feet from the cove should not be used for irrigation for a period of 90 days or until Sept. 27.Additional “booster” treatments may be performed in this area during July and August.All treatments are being performed by Aquatic Control Technology of Sutton under contract to the City of Lynn, and pursuant to a license issued by the state Department of Environmental Protection and an Order of Condition issued by the Lynn Conservation Commission.
