LYNN – In an evenly played game, the final score of the Agganis Boys Soccer Game was not a surprise. The North and South all-stars battled in a 2-2 draw at Manning Field on a sun-splashed Wednesday evening.North MVP Adam Trexler of Newburyport scored the equalizer on a penalty kick with a little over 30 minutes left in the game.”Adam got fouled, so we let him take the kick,” said North head coach Mike D’Agostino. “He dominated up front today.”Early in the game, the South was getting some quality scoring chances with two corner kicks in the opening six minutes. North goalkeeper Helio Meirelles Neto kept the South off the scoreboard.The North team nearly scored on a free kick, but South goalie and MVP Henry Eager made a spectacular diving stop.”Both goalies played amazing,” said D’Agostino. “It was a shooting-fest, but they made some great saves.”Drew Foley gave the South a 1-0 advantage when he capitalized on a turnover in the North defensive zone before he slipped the ball past Neto in the 15th minute. The North tied the score when Graham Doherty from Beverly took the ball at midfield and passed to a streaking Brayan Rovira downfield. Rovira ran past the South defenders and shot the ball into the net with 15 minutes left in the first half.The South regained the lead just before halftime when Ian McIver’s throw-in landed on the foot of Nick Dessalines in the box. The ball sailed into the net and the South held a 2-1 lead at the break.As the second half began, North’s Jack Heintzelman of Masconomet created some scoring chances for both himself and his teammates. Eager was able to make crucial saves.In a frantic finish, both goalies stood tall and neither team was able to get the game-winning goal.
