LYNN – A Malden man was held without bail Monday after police said the man and two accomplices pulled a local businessman from his truck and then beat him with guns before robbing him outside of his Union Street business.”He was being hit about his body and face repeatedly with the guns and one of the suspects had something on his knuckles which he was being hit with,” Lynn Police Officer Paul Galatis wrote in a report.Jose Medrano, 27, of 167 Kennedy Drive #411, Malden, was arrested on a warrant and charged with armed robbery; possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card; carrying a firearm without a license; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; and kidnapping; at 1:10 p.m. June 20.He was arraigned on the charges Monday in Lynn District Court, where a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.Police reported responding at 10:33 a.m. June 19 to 10 Union St., where they found the alleged victim bleeding from his right eyebrow and nose.The alleged victim told police he had pulled into the back entrance of his moving business when three Hispanic men with guns approached and started pistol-whipping him, according to police.The alleged victim said he recognized one of the men as a man he knew as “Angel” and another of the men as Angel’s brother, police reported. The alleged victim allegedly grabbed hold of Angel’s gun, releasing the magazine so that it fell to the ground. The alleged victim’s two colleagues allegedly interrupted the attack, and the victim and witnesses told police Angel picked up the magazine as the suspects fled the scene with $1,500 that was in the alleged victim’s pocket.Police reported recovering several live bullets from the scene of the attack. The alleged victim was sent to Salem Hospital and then Massachusetts General Hospital, according to police reports.Police subsequently identified Angel as the defendant, Medrano, after one of the alleged victim’s coworkers recognized the “Angel” as the boyfriend of a woman to whom the coworker recently delivered a mattress. The woman identified “Angel” as Jose Medrano and said he was living in Malden with a new girlfriend.Police arrested Medrano at a Saugus hotel. He was also charged on warrants issued for two of his different aliases.A prosecutor at Medrano’s arraignment requested the defendant be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing, according to court documents.Judge Neil Hourihan granted the request and scheduled the dangerousness hearing for next Monday.
