LYNN – Shawn Anderson had never hit a home run in a Little League game … not even in practice.?He?s hit the fence a couple of times,” said his father, Rick, the manager of the Wyoma All-Star baseball team Wednesday at Pine Hill?s Spagnoli Field, “but never during the regular season … never even in practice.”Well, he can cross that off his bucket list. Anderson the Younger hit one out of Spagnoli Field to cap a three-run rally in the bottom of the fifth and lead Wyoma to a 5-4 winner?s bracket victory over Peabody Blue in the District 16 All-Star Tournament.By winning, Wyoma will face Peabody West Sunday (5) in the winner?s bracket final. Peabody Blue drops down to the loser?s bracket and will face the winner of Saturday?s Saugus National-Swampscott game Sunday at 1. Sites for the games have not been determined. With the score tied at 2-2 entering the top of the fifth inning, Peabody Blue?s Ryan Fera led off the inning with a walk and took second and third on wild pitches. When leadoff hitter Ryan Knight drew a one-out walk, he kept right on going to second, causing so much confusion among the Wyoma infielders that Fera was able to come home to make it 3-2.Later, Knight scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth. To that point, Sean Letarte had been cruising, though he was getting close to the pitch limit by the bottom of the fifth. He?d given up two runs in the second inning, both on starting pitcher Bobby Alcock?s single to left field. But he stymied Wyoma after that, until there were two out in the fifth. Then, things started to happen. Chris Kelly doubled to center and Jared DeFillipo followed with a triple that rolled to the fence in right. Anderson followed that up by parking one over the center field fence for two more runs and a 5-4 lead. That left it up to Connor Donohue, Wyoma?s third pitcher of the night (after Alcock and Kyle Finnigan), to register the save. With one out, Calvin Ingemi, who had hit a towering home run in the second inning to give Peabody one of its first two runs, reached on an error. But the next Peabody batter hit a comebacker to Donohue, who started a 1-6-3 double play to end the game.?It was a great game,” said Anderson, “back and forth. And I?ll tell you. Their pitcher (Letarte) is the best pitcher we?ve seen so far.”Peabody took the 1-0 lead on Ingemi?s homer, and Alcock?s single made it 2-1, Wyoma. Peabody Blue tied it in the fourth when Ingemi, who had been hit by a pitch, came around on wild pitches to score.
