The Lynn Babe Ruth 15-year-old all-stars defeated Swampscott/Nahant 12-1 Wednesday at Breed and will now advance to the state tournament, which begins Sunday in Braintree.Lynn had actually won the tournament (based on having the best record in pool play) the night before with its win over Saugus, but it still had one game remaining against Swampscott/Nahant.Herbie Newton pitched the first three innings for Lynn with Kenny Sanchez coming on in relief to close out the game. Matt Stanley (triple, double); Ricky Germano (2 hits) and Gerry Ortega (2-for-2, walk) swung the bat well for Lynn.?We had strong pitching by both pitchers,” manager Steve Moccia said. “We got the key hits when we needed them.”Moccia said the team is looking forward to going back to the states. Last year, as 14s, the team went 1-2 in the states.?We?re looking to improve on that record,” Moccia said.
