LYNN – A judge ordered a homeless city man held without bail after police said the defendant punched his girlfriend’s face after an argument on the street.”(The alleged victim) stated, ?I think he broke my face,'” Lynn Police Officer Oren Wright wrote in a report.Timothy Powell, 39, homeless of Lynn, was arrested and charged with assault and battery; assault and battery causing serious bodily injury; possession with intent to distribute Class E drugs; a drug violation near a school/park; resisting arrest; and disorderly conduct; at 8:28 p.m. Sunday.He was arraigned on the charges Monday in Lynn District Court where a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.Police reported responding to Washington and Liberty streets at approximately 8 p.m. Sunday where several people directed officers to the alleged victim.”She was crying and I observed that she was bleeding from her nose and the left side of her face was bruising and appeared to be somewhat ?caved in,'” Wright reported.The alleged victim told police her boyfriend, the defendant, had been hitting her – but not too hard – all day.The alleged victim said she and her boyfriend were arguing outside of Shaw’s on Market and State streets when Powell punched her in the face several times, according to police.Police found Powell sitting on the front steps of a Hanover Street apartment building and reportedly holding a zip-top bag with several white pills.Police said Powell fled when told he was under arrest but was quickly tackled by an officer. Officers reported identifying the pills as Gabapentin.A doctor reported the alleged victim was believed to have a fractured left side of her face and would be likely sent to Massachusetts General Hospital for surgery.Judge Stephen Abany accepted the commonwealth’s request that Powell be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. He scheduled Powell to return to court for the hearing on July 29, according to court documents.
