The North Shore Navigators came into Sunday afternoon?s game hot, as they had won four out of their last five games, but they dropped a heartbreaker to the Seacoast Mavericks, 4-3.It was a pitcher?s duel for most of the game as both starters went six and two-thirds innings deep. Jordan Quinn (NCCU) got the start for Seacoast and gave up two runs on two hits and five walks. Ryan McAuliffe (Northern Essex) gave up just one run on six hits while striking out three. The Navigators wasted no time scoring as they scored twice in the bottom of the first. Joe Coyne (St. Joseph?s) grounded out to short to score Matt Ramsay (Wofford) from third base and Skyler Geissinger (SIUE) grounded out to the shortstop again, this time bringing Justin Peluso (Wheaton) home from third. The Mavericks got one run back in the top of the fourth when Dalton Davis (San Jacinto) singled to drive home Michael Mastroberti (SNHU) from second base.North Shore got what seemed to be an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Omar Cuevas (St. Thomas Aquinas) scored on a groundout by Tim Hendricks (Benedictine). That wouldn?t be enough, however, as Seacoast rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth. Matt Brill (Appalachian State) drilled an RBI triple to deep center to score Dakota Higdon (North Florida). David Hopkins (Rhode Island) then hit an RBI single to tie the game, 3-3. Martin Tavares (Rhode Island) drove in the go-ahead and game-winning run with an RBI single for the 4-3 final.Mick Terzi (Post) picked up the loss for the Navigators. He came on in the top of the ninth but gave up three runs while only recording one out. Rob DiFranco (Bates) finished off the inning, but it was too little, too late. The Navigators return home to Fraser Field on Tuesday morning at 10:30.
