Lynn Public Library schedules variety of summer events

LYNN – The Lynn Public Library is offering activities and events for adults, children and teens as part of its summer program.The library also offers discounted tickets and admission passes to various museums and events to help make summer fun available and affordable for all ages. Participants should have a library card and should register in advance for all programs by calling 781-595-0567, ext. 110.IRobot: Kids and teens ages 8-18. Learn about what it takes to design and build a wide variety of robots, including a Roomba vacuum and robots for security, rescue and search. The professionals at IRobot will talk to kids and perform a live demonstration. Monday Aug. 4, 10 a.m.QuaranTEEN: Teens ages 12-18. Come check out the new teen tech lab featuring Dell and Mac computers and 3-D printer, Xbox 360 with Kinect and other video games, iPads and more. Mondays and Wednesdays, 1-4 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3-7 p.m.Story time with Miss Sue: Come sing songs, do finger plays and throw puppets around with Miss Sue. Followed by activities from Lakeshore Learning and Brain Building in Progress Funding. Recommended for ages 2-5. July 28 and Aug. 11, 25 at 10 a.m.Toddler Music Time: Mary Beth Maes will perform a toddler music time with songs and dances perfect for the young patrons. Recommended for ages 2-5. July 21 at 10 a.m.Family Concert with Mary Beth Maes: Enjoy an evening of music with Mary Beth Maes. All ages are invited to sing along and dance. July 24, 6 p.m.Alex the Jester: Come and see Alexander, the King of the jesters. Alexander is a theatrical clown who is always playing around. The performance is open to all ages and audience participation is a must. July 17, 6:30 p.m.Raw Arts VanGo: For teens ages 12-18. Come and get creative with Raw Art Works! Space is limited and registration is required. July 22, 2:30 p.m.Curious Creatures: Curious Creatures will visit with an array of live animals. Come for a fun, educational and interactive program that is open to all ages. July 23 and Aug. 20, 11 a.m.FIZZ, BOOM, READ, IT’S MAGIC!: Join Bob Conrad for an outrageous magic show and much more. The performance is open to all ages and audience participation is a must. Aug. 7, 10:30 a.m.Disney Princess Performance: Professional actress Carole Finn-Weidmann will star as a Disney Princess. Dress up as your favorite Disney character and enjoy the show. Open to all ages. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Aug. 12, 11 a.m.Spoon Man: You won’t believe your eyes when you see this man dazzle you with a set of spoons. He can play any kind of music in the world. Open to all ages. Aug. 14, 6:30 p.m.Children’s summer reading: Read books to receive a certificate of achievement and prize of your choice. Choose from the following age/grade-appropriate format for children preschool through grade five. Visit the library to register for the program and to receive your free Summer Reading Packet, which includes a reading log, pencil, bookmark, book bag and schedule of events.Kids can also challenge themselves by taking Mayor Kennedy’s Reading Incentive for an invitation to an ice cream social at City Hall on Aug. 26 at 5 p.m.Teen summer reading: For teens ages 12-18. Fill out a teen book review for every book you read and become entered in a raffle for prizes, including games and gift cards. Submit completed book reviews to the Teen Center from July 1 to Aug. 20. Raffles will be awarded weekly and winners are notified by telephone.Adult summer reading: For adults 18 and up. Each week, submit reviews on the books you read for a chance to win a local restaurant gift certificate in our Friday drawing. You can also play tic-tac-toe for your chance to win everything in our “Relaxing Summer Read” display.
