SAUGUS – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s E-ZPass Street Team will be enrolling new customers in the E-ZPass program in Saugus next week.E-ZPass is free to join and customers receive a transponder on site.E-ZPass customers can proceed through the dedicated E-ZPass lanes at the toll plaza without stopping or fumbling for cash because the toll is collected electronically through the use of a transponder attached to the windshield. The street team’s upcoming schedule is part of MassDOT’s continued efforts to enroll new customers in the E-ZPass program as the Tobin Bridge converts to all-electronic tolling.Later this month, tolls will start being collected electronically through the E-ZPass transponder or via a “pay-by-plate” system, where an image of a license plate is taken and an invoice will be sent to the address listed on the vehicle registration. This means that vehicles will no longer stop at a toll plaza to pay cash.In addition to the sign-up sessions listed below, you may also join E-ZPass online, Mass.gov/EZPassMA or by phone, 877-627-7745. Transponders are also available at Registry of Motor Vehicle branches and from AAA.Following is the local schedule, and all events will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless otherwise noted:Monday, July 21, Kowloon Restaurant parking lot, Route 1 north (948 Broadway).Tuesday, July 22, MEG Building, 58 Essex St.Wednesday, July 23, MEG Building, 58 Essex St.Thursday, July 24, Kowloon Restaurant parking lot.Friday, July 25, Kowloon Restaurant parking lot.Saturday, July 26, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Square One Mall Truck Show, Route 1 south.
