The Martha?s Vineyard Sharks traveled to Fraser Field on Thursday night to face the North Shore Navigators. The game was a pitcher?s duel as runs were hard to come by. North Shore won 3-2.Kyle Gauthier (Hartford) followed up an impressive previous outing with another good one last night. He let up 2 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings while striking out 7.Soren Hanson (Colby) got the start for the Sharks and tossed 7 shutout innings, allowing only 5 hits.Martha?s Vineyard struck first in the top of the 1st inning. A groundout by Jon Mayer (Bucknell) scored Ryan Kelly (Salve Regina) for the game?s first run. Then, in the 6th inning, Steve Buckley (Western New England) hit an RBI single to score Will Toffey (Vanderbilt) to make it 2-0.The Navigators saved all of their offense for the bottom of the 9th inning. Sean O? Neill (Merrimack) led things off with a single. Matt Ramsay (Wofford) pinch-ran for him and stole second base. Tim Hendricks then singled to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Joe Coyne (St. Joseph?s of Maine) stepped up to the dish and hit a 2-RBI double to deep right center to tie the game at 2-2. Rich Baerga (St. Thomas Aquinas) then hit a walkoff RBI single against his former team to win the game 3-2.Cole Chandler (Point Loma Eastern Nazarene), Mick Terzi (Post), and James Young (Plymouth State) combined to throw 3 shutout innings out of the bullpen to keep North Shore in the game and it paid off.This was the third straight win for the Navigators. Their next home game is Saturday night against the Torrington Titans.
