Lynn Police investigate four weekend shootings

July 22, 2014 by [email protected]

LYNN – Police said four separate shootings within hours Saturday night into Sunday morning left two city men with non-life-threatening injuries.Police had made no arrests in connection with the incidents as of Monday afternoon, and alleged victims and witnesses reported no suspect descriptions. The first incident occurred around 11 p.m. Saturday night when police responded to the area of 140 South Common St. and found a man shot in the left hip, according to Lynn Police Lt. Rick Donnelly. The alleged victim – a 37-year-old city man – reported he had been shot while at the Commons near the gazebo. There was no description of a suspect, and the alleged victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Donnelly reported.Less than a half hour later, police responded to Salem Hospital, where a 22-year-old city man reported he had been shot while at a block party on Rogers Avenue, police said. Donnelly reported police had received noise complaints from the party but had not gotten any reports of a gunshot. He said police had shut the party down at 10:30 p.m., so the alleged incident probably occurred earlier in the evening than reported. The alleged victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and did not need surgery, Donnelly reported. Again, no suspect description was given.Police then received calls of gunshots from Commercial Street and Elm Street around 1:15 a.m. Sunday. Police later that morning found several shell casings at Commercial Street and Neptune Boulevard which officers believe are connected with the earlier calls. No injuries were reported in this incident. In the final incident of the night, police received multiple reports of gunshots on Pinkham Street at 2 a.m. Sunday. Donnelly reported that officers recovered 21 9-millimeter shell casings on the block between Pinkham Place and Story Avenue. Witnesses reported the shots came from a car traveling on Story Avenue and then onto Chestnut Street. No other suspect information was given, according to police.Donnelly said that police do not know why the alleged incidents occurred within such a short period of time and that each incident remains under investigation.
