GEORGETOWN – Lynn?s Junior Legion baseball team saw its season come to an end following a 3-2 semifinal defeat at the hands of Georgetown on Tuesday evening. The hosts scraped across the winning run in their final trips to the plate before relief pitcher Scott Webster stranded two runners in scoring position in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.?I feel bad for the kids, but they had one heck of a season,” said coach Jim Hennessey, whose team fell one win short of playing in the championship for a second straight year. “The city of Lynn was well represented this summer on the diamond and this team was a big part of it once again.”Georgetown?s Ryan Slack delivered a one-out double to deep right in the bottom of the sixth before coming in to score on Chris Alberigi?s game-winning single through the 5-6 hole.Matt Desilets was hit by a pitch to open the following half-inning before advancing to second on a passed ball and third on a fielder?s choice groundout to second from Herbie Newton.Pinch-hitter Ryan Turenne worked a full-count walk before a groundout to third from Donnie Weisse gave way to Webster striking out Andre Gaudet, who was originally set up to be intentionally walked.Lynn would strand the bases loaded in the sixth, which saw the hosts? starter, Cal Perry, plunk Gaudet and counterpart Brendan O?Neil before being removed in favor of Webster. The latter proceeded to hit Andrew Moccia with his first pitch before getting Dan Hennessey to ground out to second, ending the inning.?We ran into a pair of good pitchers today who prevented our offense from really getting going,” explained Hennessey. “We had our chances but couldn?t capitalize, unfortunately.”Trailing 2-0 after three frames, the visitors tied things in their second time through the batting order.Weisse reached on a leadoff bunt single, which he miraculously managed to get down, despite a pitch at eye level. After advancing to third on a Gaudet groundout, the former scored on a double to right-center from O?Neil.Moccia delivered the equalizer shortly after with a sharp single through the left side, scoring his pitcher.?Our guys really stayed focused after falling behind early,” reflected Hennessey of the mid-game rally. “We were seeing the ball a lot better our second time through the lineup and put ourselves back in the game.”Solo runs in the first and third provided Georgetown with a promising lead.Slack broke the ice with an RBI infield single, scoring Webster, who had roped a ground-rule double to left-center before advancing 90 feet on a wild pitch. Two innings later, Slack was at it again with a single to left that scored leadoff man Jake Valcich, who reached on an error by shortstop Joe Tardiff.Georgetown advances to the title game, where it will face Littleton, who narrowly defeated Lynn on Sunday, 3-1, to earn the postseason?s top seed.
