PEABODY ? State Police said excessive speed may have been a factor in a three-vehicle crash on Route 1 north in Peabody that left a man with serious injuries and closed the roadway for two hours Saturday morning.The crash occurred on Route 1 north near Route 114 in Peabody at approximately 6 a.m. Saturday, according to a press release from State Police.Police said one of the three vehicles involved hit a utility pole, entrapping the 37-year-old male from Peabody who was driving the vehicle. The crash caused live wires to fall across both sides of the highway, police said.Troopers and members of the Peabody Fire Department extricated the driver and transported him to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries. Police reported preliminary investigation suggests that “excessive speed may have been a contributing factor in this crash,” according to the press release. The roadway was closed until 8:30 a.m. Saturday and then a single lane was opened, police reported.
