LYNN – In session two of a free Monday-night running clinic, a group of runners got to participate in a beach run and get training tips and advice.Jim Green of Marblehead, who organized the clinic, has a resume that includes a second-place finish at the 1959 Pan Am Games marathon. The winner of that marathon was none other than Boston Marathon champion Johnny Kelley “The Younger.”The clinic began at the bathhouse by the Nahant Rotary, then progressed to a 2.2-mile run – not on concrete, but rather on the sandy surface of the beach, almost to the Tides Restaurant and back.Green asked participants their times for a 5K, watched them run and made suggestions, and inquired about what events were on people?s agendas.Krissy Kozlosky of Lynn is training for the second annual Bridge & Back 10K in Salem on Aug. 3. She could not attend Green?s clinic last week, as it coincided with the summer adult track relay at Manning Field. But she was among those running the Causeway last night.?I would definitely attend another session,” Kozlosky said. “He has so much to offer. I never thought to train on the sand. I actually liked it and will add beach running to my training schedule.”By the end of the clinic, Green had shared a comprehensive list of advice, including ideas for training runs and suggestions on what to wear. As for a running style, he recalled his days as a teacher at Saugus High, when he would practice shuffling.?He has so much running and training knowledge that he could write a book!” Kozlosky said.
