SAUGUS ? Locks of Love is taking aim at cancer by becoming part of the Target the Darkness event. The nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from medical hair loss has agreed to allow hair donors to make donations of hair at “Target the Darkness,” which will be held at World Series Park Saturday, Sept. 20 from 5-9:30 p.m.Not only individuals but also groups and organizations are encouraged to participate as donors to Locks of Love. The hairpieces the organization provides children reportedly help to restore self-esteem and confidence, enabling these children to face the world and their peers. The Saugus committee of TargetCancer Foundation is thrilled to have Locks of Love on board for the event that is primarily a walk-a-thon. The walk-a-thon will take place at the Mac Track adjacent to World Series Park, but the opening and closing ceremonies will take place on the baseball field. Live entertainment performed by local singers and musicians, food, a moon bounce and the always poignant illumination ceremony at dusk are also on tap for the event.People can sign up to walk, purchase illumination bags and make donations. Sponsor signs, to be placed around the track, can also be purchased by donations from businesses and individuals. Sign up online at www.stayclassy.org/targetthedarkness2014. All of this will also be possible to do at the TargetCancer Foundation booth at Saugus Founder’s Day on Sept. 6.The event is being held in memory of Dave Webster, a victim of cholangiocarcinoma, a rare cancer that has no treatment.
