My grandfather was a soldier in WWI, he fought for the Austro-Hungarian Empire.”This year is the first year that some of the dances and events will be held at a Victorian Era estate. Roann Costin has donate her home, Egg Rock Estate, for events such as the Seaside Soiree ? concert, formal tea and dancing.The Bishops began attending vintage dances such as this about 25 years ago and became members of the Commonwealth Vintage Dancers, a Medford-based group that, according to their website, “reconstruct, teach and perform American ballroom dance from the 19th and early 20th centuries.”The events kick off today at 1 p.m. with a costume workshop where guests will learn how to do period hairstyles under the direction of Katy Bishop, followed by a dance class, and then a seaside soiree in the evening.Period clothing is not required to attend the events. According to VintageVictorian.com, among the attendees there is usually a mix in period dress and modern formal or semi-formal wear. The website asks that party-goers wear whatever makes them comfortable, but no jeans or T-shirts.Registration for the Nahant Victorian Dance Weekend is now open at VintageVictorian.com under the “Ball” tab. Full weekend advance admission prices are $65 for general public and $30 for students. Daily admission prices $15 for general and $5 for students on Friday, $40 for general public and $20 for students on Saturday, and $25 for general public and $10 for students on Sunday.
