Lynn?s Andre Gaudet has gotten the most out of this baseball season. From the time the Classical team assembled in late March to begin spring workouts until now, Gaudet has been patrolling one diamond or another. He started and played first base as a sophomore for the Rams, and played two games in the MIAA tournament. He then joined the Lynn junior American Legion team, and got called up for several senior games. This past weekend, Gaudet, who was an all-star for Pine Hill Little League and Lynn Babe Ruth for all three seasons he played, took part in the Lynn Invitational showcase at Fraser Field, and was selected to play in the all-star game Tuesday night, along with Brett Molea and several other area players. And this weekend, he?ll be in Cary, N.C., for the National Team Identification Series (NTIS) as part of the New England regional team.Beginning Thursday, Gaudet will work out in the 17- and 16U category. The NTIS has gained popularity among players in the past, not only for the chance to make Team USA, but for the experience and exposure they get along the way. Gaudet had to try out to make the NTIS showcase. There are two stages of tryouts before a regional team is selected. First, there is a state-run tryout and then a regional tryout, with both workouts and simulated games. The regional director then selects an all-New England team to compete in North Carolina. Gaudet is one of 18 players from New England to make the trek to Cary.In all, there are 14 regions. Players from throughout the country will compete in pro-style workouts and games, all in front of USA Baseball National staffers, college recruiters and Major League scouts. Each regional team will play three nine-inning games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. At the end of the weekend, a selected group culled from all 14 regions will be picked to compete in the Team USA 40-man trials.
