WORCESTER ? A Lynn man was arraigned Thursday on a charge of murder in connection with a 2003 killing in Fitchburg.Tony A. Ancrum was charged with murder that allegedly occurred on Water Street in Fitchburg on Sept. 2, 2003 when Ancrum was 21 years old, the Fitchburg Sentinel and Enterprise reported Thursday afternoon.The paper identified the victim as 23-year-old Christian Perez.The Sentinel and Enterprise said Ancrum was secretly indicted by a grand jury on Thursday, and the indictment was not announced publicly until Thursday morning.The paper quoted Worcester District Attorney Spokesman Timothy Connolly as explaining that a secret indictment is done when the person in question is not in custody, his or her whereabouts could be unknown, or the suspect could be at risk of injuring someone else or could be injured him or herself prior to the arraignment.Connolly told the paper that Ancrum was long considered a suspect in the alleged incident but was arrested Thursday in Lynn in connection with the indictment.Connolly could not be reached Thursday afternoon for further information about the arraignment.
