LYNN ? The Lynn-Boston ferry was running Thursday morning despite an overnight incident in which a boat for the service apparently ran aground offshore.The Nathaniel Bowditch out of Salem picked up passengers at the Lynn ferry terminal for the morning’s runs after reports that the usual boat, the Cetacea, ran aground Wednesday night.Boston Harbor Cruises, which runs the ferry, announced on Wednesday that the trial service has extended its run through Sept. 26. It was originally supposed to end for the season on Sept. 12 but has proven so popular that it will run for another two weeks.The service has not been without glitches. The Cetacea, which doubles as a whale watch vessel, became stranded with more than 100 passengers aboard last month during a whale watch tour. No one was hurt.It was unclear what caused Wednesday night’s apparent grounding.The Daily Item staff is working on this story and will have updates as they become available.
