SAUGUS – The 9th Annual Special Olympics Day at World Series Park in Saugus will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.A softball tournament and a flag football tournament involving Special Olympic teams from the area will start at 8:30 a.m. An obstacle course for Young Athletes will start at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m. the opening ceremony and parade of athletes will take place, emceed by Eddie Palladino, Boston Celtics announcer. Former Olympics athletes will take part. Gerry Agganis will throw out the first pitch.New this year, entertainment will start on the stage at 10 a.m. and will be provided by the Senior Tones, the Uncle Steve Band, singers Amanda Rosa, Patti Vellucci, Ryan Murray and Tom Rosa, the Brady Academy of Irish Dancing, the Boston Lykeion Greek Dancers and Beat ConnXtion dancers. The entertainment portion will be emceed by Joey Barilone.The whole day will take on a festival atmosphere that will include raffles, a moon bounce, pony rides and a large variety of food and drink. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.World Series Park is proud to again sponsor this event with all proceeds going to Special Olympics Massachusetts. Donations from businesses and individuals can be made prior to that day and will be acknowledged at the event.
