LYNN – A Salem man who allegedly shot up a Joyce Street apartment building Saturday morning “just to be cool” was held without bail pending trial, while his two co-defendants in the drive-by shooting were held for probation and released on $3,500 cash bail, respectively.”All parties involved … are very lucky they are not here facing more serious charges today,” Essex Assistant District Attorney Katelyn Giliberti said Tuesday in Lynn District Court. Giliberti said “(an eyewitness) thought (a defendant) committed the shooting ?just to be cool,’ which shows such a blatant disregard for human life.”Ticara Cardona, 24, of 38 Boston St. #31, Salem, William Murphy, 24, of 7 Parlee St., Salem, and Yefry Cardona, 22, of 6 Harris St., Peabody, were each arrested and charged with discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building; assault with a dangerous weapon, a firearm; possession of a firearm without a firearms identification card; possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card; and possession of a high-capacity feeding device for a firearm; at 2:30 a.m. Saturday.Ticara Cardona, the alleged driver of the vehicle, was also charged with leaving the scene of property damage. Each pleaded not guilty to the charges Tuesday in Lynn District Court.Police reported responding at approximately 2:25 a.m. Saturday to an apartment building at 8 Joyce St. on several reports of multiple shots fired, according to court documents.Officers found multiple bullet holes and recovered two bullets from the inside of an apartment. A female resident, who police noted was eight-months pregnant, reported that she had gotten up from bed to take a bath when she and her partner heard several bangs from the bedroom.”One of the holes from the outside wall was located just above the bed and would have struck someone if they had been laying in the bed,” Lynn Police Officer Michael Economou wrote in a report. The couple said they had no problems with anyone and had no idea who would have shot into the home, police reported.Swampscott Police, meanwhile, had stopped a gray SUV on Essex Street. Officers noted Murphy and Yefry Cardona were moving around in the vehicle and “became belligerent and uncooperative” as officers approached the car. Ticara Cardona and her sister were also in the car and yelling at the male suspects.Officers reported recovering a Glock 9-millimeter handgun and a 31-round magazine with 24 bullets from inside a secret compartment in the vehicle’s glove box. None of the involved parties had a license for the gun or ammunition, and police noted that only a police officer with departmental approval could legally purchase or own that gun in Massachusetts, according to court documents.Ticara Cardona’s sister, an eyewitness, told police she and her sister and brother-in-law, (Ticara and Yefry Cardona) and a friend (Murphy) were driving home to Lynn from a bar in Boston, according to reports. The eyewitness said Ticara Cardona was driving and Yefry Cardona was in the front passenger seat. Murphy was in the rear passenger seat and she was sitting behind her sister, police reported. When the car turned onto Essex Street, Murphy began shooting a gun out of the passenger side window, the eyewitness told police. The SUV hit another car as it fled the scene, and then the male defendants tried to hide the gun as police approached.”(The eyewitness) stated that they had no problems with anyone in Boston or Lynn on this night and believes that Murphy shot the gun off because he was drunk and trying to be cool,” Lynn Police Officer Christopher Hagerty wrote in a report.Ticara Cardona allegedly told police she knew nothing about any shooting and that she was a “little tipsy,” Hagerty reported.Giliberti requested during a dangerousness hearing Tuesday that each defendant be found dangerous and held without bail pending trial. The probation department also requested Yefry Cardona be held for an alleged probation violation.Public defender Thomas Pierce
