School Roundup: Classical volleyball wins home opener

There’s no place like home.That’s what the Classical High volleyball team found in a 3-0 win over Beverly Friday in its home opener.The Rams won 25-12, 25-19 and 25-11 to even their record at 1-1. Captain Cassie D’Agostino got things going in the first set with eight service points (5 on her first serve and three to end the set). D’Agostino continued to get it down in the second set with five service points (she had 15 overall). Meredith MacDonald (14 digs) and captain Ivy Martin also did a nice job serving as did Cassidy McGann (7 service points) and Lindsey Tobin (6) in the third set. Soneta Srey (12 digs), D’Agostino, Martin and Srey did a nice job up front winning battles and controlling the tempo of the match.Peabody 3, English 0At Peabody, the Tanners turned in a dominating performance, winning 25-5, 25-9, 25-6. Senior captain Courtney Bua, Hannah Kemp and Sara Hosman played well for the 2-0 Tanners. Middle hitter Molly Nhiv and setter Lily Vu were impressive for the Bulldogs in the loss.Danvers 3, Saugus 0At Saugus, the Falcons won 25-23, 25-8 and 25-21. Angela Saggese (5 kills, 9 digs); Brynn O’Neill (8 kills, 3 aces) and Shannon Veilleux (9 aces, 21 assists) had strong performances for Danvers (2-0).Fellowship 3, Tech 0At Tech, the Tigers (0-1) lost 12-25, 18-25 and 8-25 despite strong serving by Paola DeCalle and solid play at center by captain Pamela Tavarez.Marblehead 3, Triton 0At Byfield, the Magicians made it a clean sweep by winning 25-12, 25-15 and 25-15. Julia Marsden (6 aces) led the team in serving. Katie Pearce and Samantha Payne each had three aces while Jenny Norcross had five kills in two sets. The team also did a nice job receiving.FIELD HOCKEYLynnfield 2, Manchester-Essex 0At Lynnfield, senior captain Bailey Fanikos, who has verbally committed to play at the University of Virgina, scored with 12:16 left in the first half and Kathleen Hamm made it 2-0 late in the second half.”We dominated the whole game,” coach Mamie Reardon said, adding that Manchester-Essex only had one shot on goal to Lynnfield’s 10. Marblehead also had 11 corners and scored on one.Marianne Oliveri, Stefania DeAngelis and Alison Lyle played well in the win. Shannon Furey was in net.
