LYNN – A judge ordered a Hamilton man held on $750 cash bail after police said an argument over football resulted in an assault with a beer can and a woman’s keys thrown into Goldfish Pond.”The (alleged victim) told officers she and the defendant had a heated argument about football quarterbacks, and during the argument personal issues presented themselves,” Essex Assistant District Attorney Erin Bellavia said in Lynn District Court Monday.Ray Satterwhite, 46, of 17 Central Ave., Hamilton, was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a family/household member; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a beer can; disorderly conduct; and larceny from a person; at 6:06 p.m. Friday.He pleaded not guilty to the charges Monday in Lynn District Court while wearing a Donovan McNabb Philadelphia Eagles jersey.Police reported responding at 5:46 p.m. Friday to Goldfish Pond on the report of a black male in a football jersey yelling at a woman and a child.Lynn Police Officer Ronald Diaz reported he arrived at the scene and saw the man – who multiple bystanders pointed out as the cause of the disturbance – throw something into the pond as Diaz approached.”(He) appeared to be very angry and stated that he knows that he was going to get locked up tonight,” Diaz reported.Satterwhite told police he and his girlfriend (the woman with the child) had a heated argument and personal issues came to light. Satterwhite admitted to throwing the woman’s cellphone and car keys into the pond, police reported.The alleged victim said she and Satterwhite were driving and the argument got so heated that she pulled over and she and her grandson got out of the car, according to police. The alleged victim told police Satterwhite insulted her as she walked away, threw a beer can, which hit her in the back, and then took her phone and keys and tossed them into the drink.Police reported a witness corroborated this account.Bellavia requested Satterwhite be held on $1,500 cash bail, citing a prior assault case involving the same alleged victim. Bellavia also requested that Satterwhite have no contact with the alleged victim and undergo alcohol treatment and anger-management classes.Defense attorney Arthur Carakatsane requested his client be released on personal recognizance.He said his client struggles with alcohol abuse and noted the alleged victim told police she was not hurt and not afraid of the defendant.Judge Albert Conlon ordered $750 cash bail (an amount Ipswich Court was seeking on Satterwhite for a previous case) and ordered that Satterwhite stay away from, not contact and not abuse the alleged victim.Satterwhite is scheduled to return to court Oct. 3.
