Volleyball: Classical shows its balance in victory

The Classical High volleyball team defeated Revere, 3-0, Tuesday with the trio of Cassie D?Agostino, Ivy Martin and Soneta Srey leading the way.D?Agostino led the offense with her setting and ball placement and Martin was solid up front (3 blocks, 3 kills and 7 assists). Srey had five kills, five assists and 14 service points; other contributors included Meredith MacDonald (13 digs); Christine Alcalde (11 digs) and Lindsey Tobin (12 service points). Classical is 2-1.Lynnfield 3, Triton 0At Byfield, the Pioneers won handily, 25-5, 25-6, 25-10. Junior setter Shannon Ryan had seven aces and 10 assists and sophomore setter Sarah Mezini had five aces and six assists. The Pioneers (1-0) reached the Division 3 state semifinals last year before losing to Fairhaven.Beverly 3, English 0At English, the Panthers won 25-20, 25-8, 25-8, despite solid play from English senior captain and outside hitter Sabrina Uribe as well as sophomore setter Lily Vu. Uribe did a nice job with the digs while Vu was effective all-around with her sets, digs, hits and serves. English is 3-0.Peabody 3, Salem 0At Salem, the Tanners (3-0) won 25-5, 25-14, 25-18 led by Courtney Bua, who had 23 service points and four aces. Emily Dizemann (4 kills, 4 blocks) and Marina DeMild (3 aces) also played well.Danvers 3, Winthrop 1At Winthrop, the Falcons won 25-21, 24-26, 25-15, 25-19. Danvers (3-0) got good play from Erin St. Pierre (8 digs), Cara Connors (6 digs, 3 aces) and Angela Saggese (8 digs, 6 kills).KIPP 3, Salem Acad. 0At Salem, the Panthers won by scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-7.?We were excited to play tonight, especially since there were a lot of fans in the stands supporting us this evening,” said KIPP coach Lauren Estebanell. “The girls have improved tremendously in serving, and many had multiple aces.”Estebanell said the stronger servers were Sherrece Doman, Pleilerkay Gaye, and Brianna Collins-Lee. “With strong serves, and great teamwork, the girls dominated throughout the entire game,” she said.M?head 3, Saugus 1Marblehead won 25-15, 20-25, 25-15, 25-15. Marblehead dominated the first game led by setter Katie Pearce who had 16 total assists. Marblehead came back to pull out the victory in the final 2 games. Samantha Payne had 6 kills and Maeve Daley had 7. Lindsay Simmons was a force at the net, racking up 4 solo blocks and 1 assist, followed by Maeve Daley?s solo block and 2 assists. Hannah Cohen, Maeve Daley, and Julia Marsden led the team with Julia Marsden leading the way with 14 digs for Marblehead (3-0, 2-0).
