LYNN – ?Scotch & Stilettos,’ a benefit for The Sue de Vries Cancer Foundation, will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 from 7-11 p.m. at the Lynn Museum, 590 Washington St., Lynn, with music by The Johnny Ray Band.According to The Foundation’s website, its partnership with The Mass General North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers provides free wellness programming to cancer patients and their families, including massage, reiki, yoga, meditation, acupuncture and support groups, to name a few.Sue de Vries was raised in Newton, graduating from Newton South High School in 1979. She earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from George Washington University in 1984.April 20, 2006, Susan Ruth (Lipsett) deVries, 44, lost her battle with breast cancer, leaving her husband John and three young children.Shortly after her diagnosis of breast cancer, Sue recognized the need for a “wellness center” on the original logoNorth Shore. Her vision was of a place where those with cancer and their friends and families could connect, share experiences, access adjunctive therapies and gain hope and support.Over the last year, because of the Foundation, nearly 800 acupuncture treatments were all given free of charge to help ease pain and discomfort to those receiving chemotherapy and 190 free reiki sessions were provided to patients while they waited for radiation, and 280 massages were performed either before, during or after treatments.Johnny Ray commented, “The event is called Scotch & Stilettos because one of the fun features of it is an actual shoe fashion show with shoes people designed and decorated themselves.”Tickets are $75 per person and are available on The Foundation’s website: www.suedevriescancerfoundation.org.
