It was a team effort for Beverly on Saturday in its home opener at Hurd Stadium as the Panthers trailed at halftime before rallying in the second half to rip off the game?s final 19 points in a 33-20 win over Danvers.Running back Matt Madden led the offense with three touchdowns while Matt Carnevale picked off three Nick Andreas passes as the Panthers (1-1) wore down the Falcons with their punishing ground game.Danvers (0-2) jumped out to a 13-0 lead thanks to a pair of Chris Behen touchdown runs but Madden scored for Beverly just before the half to give the hosts some momentum. Christian Miller?s three-yard plunge in the third quarter gave the Panthers their first lead at 14-13.Danvers, however, rallied right back as Andreas hit his brother, Chris, for a three-yard score to put the Falcons back in front after three. The rest of the game belonged to Beverly as Madden scored for a second time and then added the PAT to give his team the lead for good.Anthony Nolasco?s pick-six upped the lead to seven before Madden scored for the final time just past the two-minute warning to salt the game away.BOYS SOCCERSt. John?s 1, BC High 1At West Roxbury on Saturday, the visiting Eagles (2-0-1) scored 15 minutes into the game when Aidan Robinson finished off a rebound of Peter Kilcommon?s cross in the penalty area to take a 1-0 lead. The hosts rallied late in the first to tie and that?s the way the game stayed.Acton-Box 3, Peabody 1At Acton on Saturday, the Tanners (3-1-0) stepped out of conference and came up short against one of the state?s top programs.?They are a great team, no question,” Peabody coach Stan McKeen said. “But we had some chances.”The game was scoreless at the half before the Colonials scored three times in the first 20 minutes of the second half to take control. Ben Manoogian netted the only Peabody goal late in the game.Wakefield 4, Swampscott 0At Wakefield, the Big Blue (2-3) trailed 3-0 after nine minutes. Swampscott regrouped in the second half, giving up only one goal, but the damage was done. Junior goalie Will Green made seven saves. Sarah Godschall, Katherine Scacchi, Katrina Silva and Macayla Lachance all had good games defensively for Peabody. Rachel Margossian made 11 saves.
