New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty — in Swampscott Tuesday to help the middle school launch a health and fitness program called “Fuel Up to Play 60” — said that last week?s incidents in the National Football League were tough to see, but “all we can do is worry about what we have to do.”Early last week, a video showing then-Baltimore Raven Ray Rice punching his fiancée (now his wife) while inside an elevator emerged, causing the team to release him and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to suspend him indefinitely.Later in the week, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was indicted for child abuse after hitting his 4-year-old son with a branch. McCourty said he doesn?t know Peterson — who was benched for last Sunday?s Patriots game as a result — but went to school with Rice at Rutgers University.?It?s hard to have these things not affect you,” said McCourty, “but all you can do is support them as best as you can and focus on doing what you have to do.?I went to school with Ray (Rice),” McCourty said. “All you can do is pray for him and his family and support them.”
