The college football season is well under way and former St. Mary?s/New Hampton School standout Todd Collier of Lynn is off to a strong start.Collier, a sophomore cornerback on the Hobart College football team, was named the Liberty League Football Defensive Performer of the Week after an impressive performance against Endicott College last weekend.Collier was tied for game-high honors with 10 tackles in a 28-18 win over the Gulls. Collier also had three pass breakups, forced a fumble and had a tackle for a loss. Hobart (2-0) held Endicott to 228 yards total offense, seven of which came on the ground.Collier isn?t the only former Lynn football player making some noise this fall. Former Classical star Buddy Ford had a monster game on defense for Mass. Maritime in a tough 31-30 loss to SUNY-Maritime in the seventh annual Chowder Bowl. Ford, a senior, had a career-high 13 tackles, 11 of which were solo. Ford is majoring in marine transportation. And then there?s Franki Galeazzi. The three-sport former Classical athlete (soccer, basketball, softball) picked up where she left off in high school by making an immediate impact at the college level. Galeazzi has played in five games for the Salve Regina women?s soccer team and she?s leading the team in scoring with four goals for eight points. Galeazzi, who has started two games, has had two two-goal games so far. The first was in a 4-3 win over Rhode Island College and the second was in a 4-0 win over Bay Path. Wlasuk?s younger brother, Cody, is a freshman linebacker for the Rams.As is often the case, the Framingham State football team has a fair number of former local players. The Wlasuks are joined by former English players Tyllor McDonald, a safety, freshman offensive lineman Nick Needham and former Item All-Star (as was McDonald) Zach Lozzi. Lozzi is a freshman defensive back. Junior Guychard Samson from St. Mary?s/Lynn is a defensive lineman and Swampscott?s Randall Kelleher is a senior wide receiver for the Rams.
