LYNN – A judge ordered a Quincy man held without bail after a child told police the defendant offered her money to have sex and raped her repeatedly.Gary Silverman, 67, of 168 Elmwood Ave., Quincy, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Lynn District Court to aggravated rape of a child with force; providing a drug for sexual intercourse; and incest.Attorneys did not discuss the details of the case in open court.But a Saugus Police report indicates a juvenile (police do not specify her age or the determining factor for the incest charge) told police she was pregnant and that Silverman was the father.The alleged victim told police she would sometimes work for Silverman to earn extra money, and Silverman offered her $5,000 to have sex, police reported.”She stated that he would tell her that her mother needed the money and she should do it to help out her mother,” Saugus Police Detective Stacey Forni wrote in a report.The alleged victim said Silverman raped her multiple times at a Saugus motel and one time gave her “what he called ?valium'” to relax her muscles. The alleged victim said she told Silverman she was depressed about what was happening, and he suggested she jump off the roof of her building, police reported.Essex Assistant District Attorney Erin Bellavia requested Silverman be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Friday.”Police are continuing the investigation, and we would like to present the court with as full a picture as possible,” Bellavia said at the defendant’s arraignment.Silverman’s attorney did not contest probable cause for the hearing and could not be reached to comment Wednesday afternoon.Judge Cathleen Campbell ordered Silverman held without bail pending the dangerousness hearing Friday.
