SAUGUS – Target the Darkness: Community for a Cure walk-a-thon will be held at World Series Park in Saugus this Saturday from 5 to 9:30 p.m. The goal of this event is to raise funds for the TargetCancer Foundation, which supports research for cures for the rare and lesser-known cancers. To honor someone’s memory, people can sign up to walk in the person’s name, purchase a memory bag or purchase a memory balloon. The cost of the memory bags and memory balloons is a $5 donation. The cost to walk is a $20 donation that includes a T-shirt (to the first 300 people to sign up), a memory bag, a glow bracelet and a bottle of water. There will be booths offering registration to walk, food, illumination bags, Locks of Love, memory balloons, fish bowl donations and “free stuff.” A moon-bounce for the children will be open at 5. The event will also include entertainment provided by The Senior Tones, Terri DiChiara-O’Soro and her band, Danny Weddle, Bobby Fosmire, Jimmy Sparks and his band Rockus, BeatConnXtionz hip-hop dancers and Endicott College dance troupe. Also, an opening and closing ceremony on the baseball field and a poignant illumination ceremony at dusk will take place. This fundraiser is again being done in memory of Saugus resident and devoted family man Dave Webster, who was 47 when he passed away in December 2011 from cholangiocarcinoma after being diagnosed only a few months previously with this untreatable cancer.People can still sign up to walk, purchase illumination bags and make donations online at http://www.stayclassy.org/targetthedarkness2014 or at the event Saturday. Mail donations to World Series Park, 8 Holden Ave., Saugus, MA 01906.
