The Swampscott High volleyball team broke into the win column with a 3-0 victory over English Friday at English.The Big Blue (1-6) won 25-10, 25-18, 25-18 with captain Gina Asipenko, an outside hitter, contributing 13 aces and four kills. Outside hitter Antonia Tuck had six aces and one kill and middle blocker Taylor McBurney helped out the cause with four aces and a kill.”We are all delighted to record the first win of the season after a lot of hard work,” Swampscott coach Chip Emery said.The Bulldogs (0-7) improved their play in each of the three games thanks in part to a solid performance by Lindsey Lannon.Fenwick 3, St. Mary’s 1At St. Mary’s, the Crusaders (5-1) took a crucial third game over the Spartans, and never looked back (25-14, 20-25, 25-14, 25-19). Marissa MacKenzie (7 kills, 2 blocks) led the way for Fenwick. Lindsey Donahue (6 kills) and Sam Mancinelli (27 assists) had strong performances for the Crusaders. Fenwick plays Austin Prep Monday.Classical 3, Winthrop 1At Winthrop, the Rams got off to a slow start, losing the first set 13-25, but they recovered to take the next two, 25-16, 25-13. Lindsey Tobin served four straight points to get the Rams back on track in the second set and she did it again in the third set with five. Things got a little dicey in the fourth set when Winthrop battled back from a 21-18 deficit to go up 23-21, but Tobin righted the ship with some excellent serving to close out the match.Danvers 3, Beverly 1At Beverly, the Falcons (5-3) cruised past the Panthers the final two games (25-19, 27-29, 25-16, 25-12). Leading the way for Danvers was the trio of Shannon Veilleux (24 assists), Angela Saggese (12 kills) and Lauren McKinnon (8 kills, 7 aces, 3 blocks). Danvers plays Revere Tuesday.Peabody 3, Marblehead 1At Peabody, the Tanners won 25-20, 24-26; 25-12, 25-11 to improve to 6-0. Emily Diezemann (12 kills, 5 blocks); Marina DeMild (7 kills, 3 blocks, 2 assists); Hanna Kemp (16 service points, 12 assists) Madison Mahoney (11 digs, 3 kills) and Sara Hosman (9 assists, 3 aces, 2 kills) played well.Marblehead’s Julia Marsden had nine digs and one ace, Hannah Cohen (4 aces, 7 digs) and Allison Kapoll and Lindsay Simmons, three kills each.FIELD HOCKEYLynnfield 1, Triton 0At Byfield, sophomore Marianne Oliveri scored the game-winner midway through the first half on a corner with the assist going to Bailey Fanikos. The trio of Lauren Guerra, Alison Lyle and Lilli Patterson patrolled the backfield for the Pioneers, who are 6-0. Shannon Fiore notched her fourth shutout. Weston 2, Fenwick 0At Fenwick, the Crusaders (0-5) had a strong team performance. Leading the way for Fenwick was midfielder Jackie Hart. Victoria Hernandez and Lauren Hallice had strong showings on the Crusaders defense. Fenwick plays Notre Dame Tuesday.GOLFNortheast 6, Classical 3At Hillview CC, the Rams (1-8) had two winners on the day in Brandon Devin (No.4) and Travis Ryan (No.5). Kyle Morrill had a strong showing for Classical as well. Classical plays Revere Tuesday.FOOTBALLIn football action, Masconomet defeated Gloucester, 34-14, and North Andover defeated Beverly, 9-7.
