SAUGUS – An MBTA official said three people were injured, with one taken to a nearby hospital, after the unlicensed driver of a pickup truck rear-ended an MBTA RIDE van in Saugus Monday morning.The crash occurred at approximately 9:35 a.m. Monday at the corner of Walnut Street and Birchwood Avenue, according to MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo.He said the truck rear-ended the RIDE vehicle, and photos from the scene show the van lying on its side and the truck with a bashed-in front end.Pesaturo said the van’s driver and a second passenger were treated at the scene. A second RIDE passenger was taken to Union Hospital with minor injuries. Pesaturo said there were no other passengers in the van at the time of the incident.Pesaturo said the 28-year-old driver of the pickup truck will be summonsed into Lynn District Court for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.THE RIDE provides transportation for disabled people in 62 municipalities.
